Course Description: Sixth grade Social Studies is a course in world history. Daily reading, vocabulary, comprehension, and the understanding of different cultures, societies, geography and economics will be our focus throughout the year.
Goals: Students will be able to recognize various government types. Students will be able to compare, contrast and evaluate different ancient civilizations and cultural periods. Students will demonstrate map reading proficiency at or above expected grade level.
Grading: This course is divided into four categories: classwork, homework, projects, and quizzes and tests. All grades will be averaged together at the end of each nine-week grading period. A progress report will be issued every 4-1/2 weeks. Late assignments will loose points for every day they are late. Assignments with no name will be placed in the trash and a zero will be given for that assignment. The Grading scale is as follows: 100-93=A, 92-85=B, 84-75=C, 74-70=D, and 69-0=U.
Extra Credit: Throughout the year extra credit will be offered. Extra credit will not be accepted late.
Absences: When you are absent it is your responsibility to get and complete your missing work. When you come back after being absent check with the absent package manager or me for any missing assignments. Make up work must be completed and turned in a timely manner.
Classroom Guidelines:
We have three main guidelines in Sixth Grade World History:
1. Listen and follow directions.
2. Keep hands and feet to yourself.
3. Treat everyone with respect.
Consequences: The consequences for not following the course guidelines are as follows: Verbal Warning, Alternative Seating, Call home, and Removal From Classroom/ Office Referral .
