Prentice Hall: Elements of Literature

Class Description:

Students will be exposed to a variety of Literature skills through the blending of vocabulary, elements of literature, and the writing process in order to develop, improve,and elevate their reading and writing
ability. The class is designed to include Reading and Language Arts teachers collaboratively planning and instructing, large and small group work, hands-on activities, one on one instruction, visual and
auditory methods, as well as a variety of media instruction.

9 Week Themes:

Every 9 week grading period has a writing theme and all work/activities are focused on that theme. At the end of each grading period, students will complete a literature analysis and a writing assessment that reflects the specific theme. The writing will be graded on the 6+1 Writing Traits.
9 Week Themes:
1st : Personal Narratives
2nd : Short Story/Creative Writing/ Poetry
3rd : Expository Literature
4th : Persuasive Literature

Make-up Work:

All students are required to complete assigned assignments. When a student returns to class from an absence, it will be the responsibility of the student to get missing assignments and discuss the due date with the teacher.

Expectations:

Students are expected to arrive on time to class, with all needed supplies. A positive attitude toward themselves and others. Students will be expected to try their best, and strive to build upon and elevate their current knowledge.

A : 100-93
B : 92- 85
C : 84-78
D : 77-70
U : 69- 0
